Analytik Jena takes over all partnership shares in AJZ Engineering GmbH from Carl Zeiss Jena

08-Jul-2004

Analytik Jena AG is taking over the remaining 40 percent shares of AJZ Engineering GmbH from Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH with immediate effect. Both companies had pooled their activities in the project engineering business in a joint venture, AJZ Engineering GmbH, at the end of 2000. The legally independent company thus combined the project business of both founding companies, which comprised both the services of an engineering company and those of a general contractor. The expertise of the 25 employees taken over from Carl Zeiss on foundation of the joint venture and a good stock of orders and reference projects were crucial for the positive development of the company.

The entrepreneurial management of the joint venture was transferred to the publicly listed Analytik Jena AG on foundation. In the past three years, AJZ Engineering developed to become a competitive and profitable company, which currently plans successful investment projects in research, education and medicine, as well as in environmental and consumer protection for its national and international customers and realises these as a general contractor.

AJZ Engineering is an economically stable partner for customers and contractors nationally and internationally. Thus, own sales organisations have been developed in Russia, Algeria, Libya and Brazil. Currently AJZ Engineering employees approx. 70 staff, of which a third operate abroad. In the financial year 2000/2001, following foundation, the joint venture started off with sales of approx. EUR 22 million. In the last financial year (as at 30 September 2003) sales in project business were more than doubled, at more than EUR 50 million. A significant increase of revenues is again expected for the current financial year. "The complete takeover of the partnership shares by Analytik Jena is a strategically logical step. In recent years, Analytik Jena made investments and contributed to AJZ Engineering becoming an efficiently performing company. A close network of contracts and cooperations has developed between the groups and subsidiaries of Carl Zeiss and AJZ Engineering in recent years. We expect this cooperation, which is based on mutual benefit, to continue long term," commented Dr Franz von Falkenhausen, CEO of Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH. Klaus Berka, Chairman of the Executive Board of Analytik Jena AG, explained: "The project engineering business fits in seamlessly with the business units of Analytik Jena and significantly contributes to the success of the entire group. It is our goal to strengthen AJZ Engineering in its competitiveness as a provider of product-related services, such as all planning and project management to do with research and routine laboratories. We anticipate new growth momentum in medicine and life sciences to arise from the extension of the corresponding services offered by AJZ Engineering."
