Reliable microplastic analysis using Raman spectroscopy
i3 Membrane GmbH
Validation of metal-coated membranes for precise particle identification
The reliable analysis of microplastics in drinking water, seawater and other environmental samples places high demands on filtration and measurement technology. It is crucial not only to retain particles reliably, but also to be able to identify them precisely afterwards. The choice of membrane plays an important role here: interfering substrate signals can compromise Raman analysis, whilst a smooth, two-dimensional surface facilitates focusing and supports automated measurements.
Metal-coated i3 TrackPor core-pore membranes combine filtration with the subsequent spectroscopic analysis of the retained particles. Their planar surface creates favourable conditions for efficient Raman microspectroscopy.
Our Application Note compares five membrane configurations with gold and aluminium coatings and demonstrates how the material and coating influence the quality of the analysis. The results will assist you in selecting suitable filtration substrates for reliable measurement results.
