Gerhard Schmitz to join Merck as new Head of Global Accounting

Merck announced that Gerhard Schmitz (50) will join the pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company as new Head of Global Accounting from Nov. 1, 2013. Gerhard Schmitz joins Merck from Lanxess, where he was Head of Accounting.

“We’re pleased that with Gerhard Schmitz we’ve won an experienced manager who has been instrumental to establishing the group-wide accounting function of a global corporation over the past nine years,” said Matthias Zachert, Chief Financial Officer of Merck. Prior to his career at Lanxess, Gerhard Schmitz was an Audit Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Germany.
