KJELDATHERM® digestion units are automated block digestion systems which deliver reproducible digestion conditions.
A high degree of precision and universality make the Kjeldahl method the world’s leading standard method for determining the nitrogen content in food and feedstuffs as well as in soil and water samples. This versatile method is also found in the general or pharmaceutical industries, or where ever the nitrogen determination is important. The Kjeldahl method can be used flexibly and universally, including with inhomogeneous sample material, and always provides reliable results. When other methods are applied, the Kjeldahl method is often used as the reference method.
The analysis consists of four steps:
1. Digestion of the samples with sulphuric acid
2. Distillation of the digestion solution
3. Titration of the distillate
4. Calculating the result
C. Gerhardt automates the process steps in classic procedures, reducing error rates and helping laboratories improve productivity, reliability of analysis and occupational safety. We standardise analysis conditions and ensure the validity and reproducibility of analysis.
KJELDATHERM digestion units are automated block digestion systems which deliver reproducible digestion conditions. The precise temperature-time-control provides a safe performance of the digestion procedure. The software contains predefined methods for all established Kjeldahl digestions. Up to 99 digestions with 40 temperature-time steps each can be stored. The heat-up time / heating power can be varied for special samples.
The systems meet highest safety standards in the lab and feature the best resistance to chemicals and mechanical stress. The motor-driven two-tier console with pinch protection (model KT-L) provides easy and safe lifting and lowering of the fully loaded insert rack including the exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold with the water jet pump or the powerful TURBOSOG scrubber (optional) remove the acid vapours effectively. The programmable preheat function makes sure that the digestion system is ready for use without any waiting time.
KJELDATHERM, combined with one of the VAPODEST® distillation units meet at minimum the requirements for precision in terms of recovery and repeatability to conform with the official international reference standards, such as §64 of the German Food Law, ASTM, AOAC, EPA, DIN/EN/ISO, VDLUFA, Gafta. Regular successful involvement in ring tests such as GAFTA, FAPAS or VDLUFA, MUVA underline the capability of the equipment.
Laboratories with DIN EN ISO/IEC ISO 17025 accreditation are required to ensure precise, secure data and document handling, as well as the traceability of measurement results.
KJELDATHERM supports these demands. The system logs the data of up to 30 digestions, which can be exported e.g. to a LIMS via USB stick at any time. Password protection, definable user rights and an extensive logbook guarantee the safety and security of the results. Inspection windows in the insert rack and lit sample tubes facilitate monitoring and tracing of the digestion process at any time.
C. Gerhardt has been specialising in the development and production of analysis systems for nitrogen/protein determination according to Kjeldahl for more than 130 years and offers extensive experience in Kjeldahl methods worldwide. The digestion systems KJELDATHERM together with the steam distillation systems VAPODEST represent at present the best system combination for the Kjeldahl analysis all over the world.
