PCR

While tiniest traces suffice for polymerase chain reaction techniques, the spectrum of PCR-based products continues to grow at a breathtaking pace. It ranges from thermocyclers to reagents and accessories to kits for the identification of microorganisms. Many of the product innovations designed for use in research, bioanalytics or microbiological monitoring provide greater sensitivity or improved time-to-result.

  • The Universal ProbeLibrary - a Versatile Tool for Quantitative Expression Analysis in the Zebrafish

The teleost zebrafish is a widely used model organism for the study of developmental and disease-related processes in vertebrates, including humans. Understanding these processes at a molecular and cellular level frequently requires the estimation of gene expression levels. Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) is an important tool towards this goal but has, until now, been relatively neglected in zebrafish. Here, we describe the comparison of the Universal ProbeLibrary (UPL)-based qPCR to a conventional SYBR Green I-based qPCR assay using embryonic zebrafish cDNA. We found that the Universal ProbeLibrary-based assay shows equal or better performance compared with the SYBR Green I assay. more

  • Chemometric Spectroscopy

Chemometric Spectroscopy is the term used to describe the direct combination of a spectroscopic measurement with a chemometric data evaluation procedure, typically a multivariate statistic method, so providing quick and reliable deduction of the qualitative and quantitative properties of a sample from its spectrum. A multi-linear regression (MLR) or partial least squares (PLS) regression is usually used for the quantitative determination of individual or combined parameters, while substance identification generally relies on techniques such as discriminant or cluster analysis. more
