02-Jul-2014 - Germany

The company was successful already the fourth time at the „Top 100“ innovation awards. The award was handed over by popular science journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar.

For more than 20 years, the "Top 100" award stands for innovation, curiosity and team spirit. On June 27th, the most successful creators of ideas in Germany once again received the renowned award. Germany’s well-known science journalist and "Top 100" mentor Ranga Yogeshwar honored the companies as part of the German SME Summit in Essen. According to "Top 100" initiator compamedia more than 1,000 guests attended the event. KNAUER is for the fourth time rated a top innovator.

The Berlin based company designs and manufactures laboratory instruments for the analysis and purification of dissolved substances – so-called liquid chromatography instruments. In this field the company with its 125 employees technically is on par with the big players in the business. One of their latest devices named Contichrom makes it possible to obtain target compounds with high purity and high yield at the same time, something considered impossible in classical chromatographic purifications. This can be used to enhance the yield in vaccine purification by up to 50 percent.

"The purification system Contichrom is a successful example of innovation through cooperation with partners," explains managing director Alexandra Knauer. The Swiss startup company ChromaCon AG brought a patented idea into the partnership and KNAUER combined it with its more than 50 years of development and instrument manufacturing know-how. This way, Contichrom was developed into a market-ready solution very quickly.

To identify promising ideas is as important as passion and enthusiasm among employees. The management of the family business KNAUER sees it as one of their most important tasks, to create the environment for successful innovation. A consistent project management ensures the necessary overview; a continuous process of advanced training keeps employees on the cutting edge of development. Freedom for employees and a positive approach to mistakes promote creative solutions and encourage employees to think unconventionally. Crucial to the success of innovation is above all that the management is willing to invest in new developments and technologies.

"Innovation is very important for our company to maintain our successful position in the market," says Alexandra Knauer. "That's why we are very pleased that our efforts were again honored with the Top 100 award."
